We are an Operation Encompass school.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is an early intervention partnership between the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) and schools. It aims to support, and protect, vulnerable children and young people who are victims of domestic violence.
We know that when children and young people witness domestic abuse at home, this can be a highly traumatic experience for them. By taking part in Operation Encompass, we can provide tailored and compassionate support to our pupils, in line with the School’s ethos; building on our existing commitment to safeguarding.
What happens if a pupil experiences domestic abuse in the home?
When the PSNI attend an incident of domestic violence, where one of our pupils is present, they will inform the School’s Designated Teacher for Child Protection, Mrs N Sinnerton, at the beginning of the next school day. Following any notification from the PSNI, our staff will provide immediate support to any pupil who has been the victim of domestic abuse. The information, given by the PSNI, will be shared in strict confidence and school staff will only be told on a need-to-know basis.
Should you wish to find out more information, please contact the School’s Designated Teacher for Child Protection, Mrs N Sinnerton, or alternatively you can read more about Operation Encompass at www.operationencompass.org.
