Volunteering, fundraising and giving back
Strathearn School is a part of the community of East Belfast. The school has links with various local organisations and supports them through volunteering and fundraising, while students and staff also participate in national charity campaigns.
Our Charity Committee made up of pupils in upper sixth, headed by Mrs Sinnerton, runs various whole-school initiatives through the year. Recent endeavours have included organising the collection of non-perishable foods for The Larder, asking for donations of toileteries and sanitary products for Homeless Period Belfast. The Charity Committee also helps to organise an annual Christmas Dinner, which sees older members of our community visit the school and enjoy a meal in Manning Hall with a warm welcome and entertainment provided by pupils.
Form classes, either with the form tutor or with a subject teacher, also take on charitable efforts and volunteering, raising awareness of and money for causes, and our members of clubs and societies also direct some of their energies towards helping others. Our Art Club, for example, raised funds through the sale of ceramic Christmas decorations, and the Library Team hosts a Coffee Morning for Staff.
90 Acts of Kindness
To mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the school, pupils, teachers and support staff embarked upon a project to perform 90 kind acts for our local community.
