Welcome to Strathearn School
Strathearn School was founded in 1929 as an all-girls school, to enhance the educational attainment of girls in the East Belfast area. It is one of Northern Ireland’s leading voluntary Grammar Schools, providing high quality education for some 775 girls aged 11 to 18 years, with a preparatory department of just over 150 girls. The School motto is ‘Encourage – Empower – Excel’ and it lives by this through its pupils. Strathearn has exceptional records in terms of its academic achievements, regularly achieving first places in Northern Ireland across a wide variety of curriculum disciplines. Moreover, the school excels in terms of music, sport and drama; for example in 2018, the school’s choir was the Songs of Praise BBC School Choir of the Year.
The school is also well known for its exceptional pastoral care and always having the welfare of its pupils to the fore. Last year Strathearn worked alongside other schools in East Belfast to produce a booklet for parents on the implications of Cyber-bullying and how to prevent it. Strathearn School believes in preparing its pupils to become the leaders in Society and many of its alumni now hold positions of significance in the areas of governance, legal, medical and other leading professions. The School also believes in the importance of community and regularly works with other schools, colleges, community and charitable groups in East Belfast and beyond to enhance the learning provision and outlook for the children of East Belfast.
