Tennis has again been a very popular summer sport and we saw lots of girls down enjoying after school tennis as well as at lunch time. Congratulations to all of the girls who represented Strathearn in the Ulster Schools’ Tennis competitions this year.
Minor - Plate Winners
The Form 1 team of Heidi Moore, Rachel Gallagher, Katie Allen and Jessica Brown were unlucky to draw a very strong MCB team who beat them in the group stages of the Minor Cup. However, with a strong win against Victoria College they went into the Plate competition and sailed their way through to the final defeating Larne Grammar on the way. They faced Killicomaine JHS in the final at Bangor Lawn Tennis Club last Thursday and were deserving winners of the Minor Plate.
Junior A – Plate Runners Up
The Junior A team had good wins against Down High School, Victoria and Methody B team, however a loss to a strong Victoria side meant they finished runners up in their group and also headed into the Plate. They too went on to dominate the Plate competition and played a very tight match in the final vs MCB A narrowly finishing as runners up. The team was Daisy Dorrian, Kate Cunningham, Lottie Eighteen and Anjali Singh.
Junior B - team of Martha Hetherington, Catherine Guinane, Kate Farmer, Abigail McCutcheon and Amelia Magowan were 3rd in their group with wins against Our Ladies and St Pats and losses to Methody A and Sullivan.
Inter A – Ulster Schools’ Intermediate Cup Winners
The Inter A team powered through their section and knock-out stages of the Cup and played Friends in the final on Monday. This proved to be a very close final and the score was 3 all at the end of the match so it went down to games won and the teams couldn’t separated at 31 games all and so were crowned Joint Ulster Schools’ Tennis Intermediate Cup Champions. The team was made up of Paige Hawthorne, Eva Morrison, Ruby Love and Sarah Mavitty.
Inter B team of Ailsa Gallagher, Eva Wilson, Maisie McCrea and Megan Chercoles Carter, reached the semi-final of the Intermediate Plate.
Senior team of Lucie McNaught, Sophie Thomas, Kate Hunter, Lauren Mooney & Hannah Pollock Chan reached the Semi-final of the Senior Cup but were unfortunately beaten by MCB at this stage in the competition.
