On Tuesday 27 February both Campbell College and Strathearn School took part in the Queen’s German Debate held at Queen’s University. The teams performed extremely well and are a credit to our schools. The girls were outstandingly prepared and really impressive. All three boys from Campbell College also performed well, with Sam Carrigan receiving the prize of Best Speaker. Although neither team won the students gained confidence, which will benefit them in their oral exam. Everyone saw it as an excellent opportunity to practise speaking and listening skills.

Furthermore, the whole event proved to be at a particularly high level this year, so the students made us especially proud. The motions debated are shown below and there were a total of 8 schools involved in the competition.

Well done to everyone who took part and to our students who attended the event in order to show their support!

Emancipation is no longer important as women nowadays have the same opportunities as men

At AS/A2 level pupils are offered French and Spanish in Strathearn and German in collaboration with CCB. This year the girls spend half their classes in Strathearn and half in CCB.  They study literature at this level and have conversation classes with the Assistant in small groups.  Classes are prepared for CCEA examinations in all three languages.  The target language is the principal means of communication in the classroom. Wherever possible a trip abroad is organized.
